About our School

In 1961 het die Transoranje Instituut vir Spesiale Onderwys (TOIBO) besluit om ‘n skool in Pretoria te stig vir kinders wat aan epilepsie ly. In 1971 het hulle voortgegaan met die bou van die skool en koshuise.

Founded 1971

The first principal of the school, Wessels van Dyk, assumed office at the new school on 1 February 1972. On 17 July 1972 the first seven pupils were admitted to the school. The staff consisted of only ten members. Between 1972 and 1979 the school had expanded to such an extent that the school opened in 1979 with a staff of 53 and 188 pupils.
Die skool het eers bekendgestaan as die Transoranje Skool vir Epilepsie, maar op 5 Junie 1973 het die skoolkomitee die huidige naam van die skool, Tranvalia-Skool, aanvaar. Op dieselfde daf is die leuse van die skool, IN GELOOF VOORWAARTS, goedgekeur en aanvaar. Oorspronklik was die skool slegs ‘n laerskool, maar seder
1974 is ‘n sekondêre afdeling bygevoeg. Die eerste matriekleerlinge het in November 1978 hul eindeksamen geskryf – nogal ‘n geskiedkundige gebeurtenis. Today, Transvalia School is a school for learners with various learning barriers. We accommodate Grade 1–12 learners in both English and Afrikaans who follow the CAPS curriculum. We also offer a DCAPS phase (Differentiated CAPS), where learners are taught a variety of practical and developmental skills. Currently, we have
372 learners and are excited to welcome even more. Transvalia’s goal is to educate and guide learners in faith, in a unique way, preparing them for the future.

Our Mission

To do the following for our learners with their special needs:
Create a safe environment in which they are accepted unconditionally and in which they can develop their full potential. Provide effective education which takes their particular needs into account. Equip them the skills, knowledge and values that will send them as productive and responsible persons into the community.
